Outreach Program
As part of our mission of collaboration, creativity, and community, Central Illinois Ballet greatly values the accessibility of the arts within our local community. Throughout the organization's history, CIB has staged numerous original performances and full-length ballets, both on the main stage and in outreach and educational settings.
Central Illinois Ballet hosts two interactive outreach opportunities each season in our Blackbox Theater created for school aged children in the central Illinois region.
In the winter, we present our favorite holiday tradition, The Nutcracker! In this short preview, we introduce students to the music and characters in a fine arts environment. They learn about storytelling through music and movement as well as how different stories are changed and adapted through the ages.
In the Spring, we introduce children to dance through repertoire taken from CIB's season. In 2023, CIB presented our Women of History outreach for Women's History Month. This outreach was an interactive dance concert that highlighted famous female figures from throughout history. Geared towards students ages 6 and up, this performance provided opportunities for eduction enrichment by reinforcing curricular goals in areas such as history, social studies, and literacy through dance while focusing on building strong moral traits such as perseverance, wisdom, humility and strength of character.
In 2024, we introduced our Peter and the Wolf outreach. Peter and the Wolf provided an interactive dance audience experience while enriching educational goals such as identifying musical instruments, narrative structure and music history. Students were also provided with the opportunity to practice emotional intelligence by connecting their emotions to movement and music during the interactive demonstration portion of the performance.
In addition to our Blackbox performances, CIB also creates tailored performances to take its professional dancers to you! The company has gone to locations such as Independence Village, Morton Library, Ignite Peoria, and more to bring professional fine ares to the central Illinois community.
